As part of our monthly Wellbeing Webinar Series, Sequoia had a conversation with Jo Hanna D’Epiro, Physician Assistant at One Medical, and Dr. Ngoc Pham, Dermatologist at Color Health, to discuss the topic of “Sun Safety & Skin Health”
During the conversation, we gained an overview of the risks of sun exposure, how to detect skin cancer symptoms, how to manage prevention and screenings, and how to protect yourself outdoors while still having fun in the sun.
You can catch up by viewing the recording.
Here are a few key takeaways from the webinar:
- The diagnosis of skin cancer is more common than you think. One in five people are predicted to get skin cancer in the US before age 70.
- Take precautions when going outside. Exposure to the sun can cause eye damage, skin damage, and heat stroke, and puts you at risk for skin cancer.
- Understanding UV levels can be helpful, but it is important to wear sunscreen with at least SPF 30 and protective clothing all-year round regardless of UV levels. Reapply sunscreen every 2 hours.
- Understand the “ABCDs” of melanoma skin cancer to help detect the different types of symptoms and when to seek medical attention.
Registration for our next monthly webinar, “Empower Your Health” is now open. The webinar will take place on Wednesday, August 21st, 2024, at 10 am PST/1 pm EST. Registration is available at this link.
