As part of our monthly Wellbeing Webinar Series, Sequoia had a conversation with Marilyn Johnson, Global Sustainability Leader and a member of the Global Mentorship Initiative Leadership Council, to discuss this month’s topic, “Act on World Environment Day”
During the conversation, we gained a greater understanding and acknowledgment of the feelings that can arise because of a shifting climate, the many ways that the climate can impact individuals and society, how to move forward through action, and so much more!
You can catch up by viewing the recording.
Here are a few key takeaways from the webinar:
- It’s important to understand the difference between “worry” and “anxiety” when it comes to feelings related to the climate. Experiencing worry can be a motivating factor to take action.
- The climate crisis affects individuals’ wellbeing in various ways. Learning to measure and evaluate stress and anxiety related to climate change is important, as these effects can differ based on individual experiences.
- Recognizing the social determinants of health in a changing climate is essential. The environmental impacts that we experience vary due to factors like socioeconomic status, physical location and geography, resource availability, and more.
- Education and awareness are important in managing eco-anxiety. Establishing sustainable habits, taking practical steps, and addressing feelings of worry or anxiety are helpful for wellbeing and positive environmental impact.
