This January, Sequoia kicked off its 2023 Wellbeing Calendar program with a focus on “Starting the Year SMART”. It’s natural to want to start the new year with ambitious health and wellness goals. However, many of us fall into the trap of setting goals that are too general and out of reach. This month, we focused on the value of setting SMART goals that are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time-Bound.

On January 18th, we hosted our first webinar as part of this monthly series and invited guest speaker, Liv Olson, Certified Executive and Team Effectiveness Coach, to share her wisdom and experience in coaching executive clients.

You can view the recording here.

A few key takeaways from the webinar:

  • Liv provided a meaningful framework for how we can maintain hope and optimism in the face of company layoffs, economic downturn, childhood illness and more. That framework consists of three areas: Goals, Agency, and Pathways.
    • Her advice for those facing uncertainty is to recognize where you have agency and where you do not. This awareness can bring about clarity that will allow an individual to bridge what they would like to achieve with what they can control.
  • We discussed the difference between “goals” and “intentions.” Liv outlined for us her metaphor of a funnel in deciding what we want to achieve. At the top and widest part of the funnel is a Theme. The next layer contains an Intention. And at the bottom and most narrow part of the funnel are the Goals.
  • We also learned how to interpret our own Wheel of Life and how to use the results to set our own intentions.

Each month in 2023, the Sequoia Wellbeing team will be sharing a toolkit with our clients. The toolkit will include an employee-facing guide that can be shared with all team members. Each guide will be centered around the theme of that month and will be interactive and educational. Also included in the toolkit will be a link to register for the monthly webinar. Registration for our next monthly webinar on “How to Build a Heart Pumping Routine You Can Stick To” is now open. The webinar will take place on Wednesday, February 15th, 2023 at 10 am PT/1 pm ET. Registration is available at this link.
