The San Francisco Health Care Security Ordinance requires certain covered employers to satisfy a spending requirement by making required health care expenditures on behalf of all covered employees.  Covered employers are those who employ one or more workers within the geographic boundaries of the City and County of San Francisco, who are required to obtain a San Francisco business registration certificate, and who are for-profit businesses with 20 or more employees. Nonprofit organizations are also subject to the rule if they have 50 or more employees.

 

On August 8, 2017, the Office of Labor Standards Enforcement (OLSE) released updated proposed rules interpreting the San Francisco Health Care Security Ordinance.  The proposed rules help to provide additional clarification surrounding the rules, which can be complex.  They also help to align amendments that were made to the rule in 2011 and 2014.  The proposed rules can be found here.

 

Anyone has the option to present written or oral statements regarding the proposed rules.  Written comments will become part of the public record.  All written comments must be received by 5:00 p.m. on August 22, 2017, to be considered.
